The history of the restaurant goes back more than 400 years. Initially the tavern "Zum Elefanten" was home here, later it was renamed "Zur schriefen Ecke". For the first time it is mentioned in historical sources 1578. In 1726, the master baker Johann Peter Asbach bought it. The building, which was destroyed in the Second World War, was later rebuilt and is therefore by far not as old as the tradition of the "squashed".
According to the archives, the name "Zum Gequetschten" probably originated around 1850. According to a legend, a procession of believers was on their way to Pützchen, who stopped by on their way to the restaurant. The faithful carried a cross with a figure of the Redeemer whom they placed behind the front door for the duration of their stay. When some Bonn students rushed into the bar, they clamped the cross behind the door. An arm of Jesus' figure broke off. From then on the place was called the "crushed Savior" or "crushed one".
